Virginia Union University's Aireanna Johnson has been named the CIAA Volleyball Rookie of the Week, the CIAA announced on Tuesday, October 4.

Johnson, a freshman outside/right side hitter from Fort Worth, Tx., recorded 16 kills, 15 digs, four service aces and two total blocks in two matches last week. In the win against St. Mary's (MD).  Johnson had eight digs, six kills, two aces, and two total blocks. Against Bowie State, she had 10 kills, seven digs, and two aces.

"Aireanna is doing great transitioning from high school to college," said VUU Head Volleyball Coach Joe Sullivan.  "She handles herself on and off the court like an upperclassman.   We are putting a lot of weight on her shoulders, and she is answering the challenge!"

The Lady Panthers travel this weekend to Raleigh, N.C., to compete in the second CIAA Volleyball Roundup.
