PETERSBURG, VA – Virginia Union University volleyball fell in straight sets (18-25, 10-25, 19-25) to Virginia State University on Monday, October 27, at the Multipurpose Center in Petersburg, VA.
Madison Hill led the Panthers with seven kills and two blocks, while setter
Ashlee Franklin added 14 assists and three digs.
Alana Simmons also chipped in five kills, and
Aireanna Johnson anchored the defense with four digs. As a team, VUU totaled 22 kills and five blocks but was unable to overcome Virginia State's strong offensive performance.
"Tonight, we faced some challenges with our mental toughness and consistency," said VUU Head Volleyball Coach Anetra Sims. "There were stretches where we played really well and made some great runs, but we struggled to maintain that focus throughout the match. We'll regroup, learn from this, and come back stronger next time."
With the loss, Virginia Union drops to 12-11 overall and 6-6 in CIAA play, while Virginia State improves to 11-9 and 10-2 in the conference.
The Lady Panthers will return to action on Wednesday, October 30, when they travel to Bowie, Md., to take on Bowie State University.
