VUU SID Receives 25-Year Award from College Sports Communicators

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Union University Sports Information Director Jim Junot has been selected to receive a prestigious 25-Year Award from the College Sports Communications (CSC).

Junot was one of just 29 sports information directors from across the nation honored during the CSC Unite Convention, which was held in June in Las Vegas.

The CSC 25-Year Award recognizes sports communicators who have completed at least 25 years as full-time professionals in athletic communications and/or have maintained active membership in the organization for 25 years at the time of the annual June convention.

"Jim is very deserving of this award for his longevity and talents," said VUU Vice-President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Community Wellness Joe Taylor.  "I often refer to him as 'The Guru of Technology' and a walking encyclopedia of history.  IACW is very proud of the value that Jim brings to the Game Day Experience with his interactive game day programs, NCAA Live Stats and media updates.  Again, congratulations on winning this prestigious award."

"I am honored to be recognized by College Sports Communications," said Junot. "The relationships I have built throughout my career and the opportunity to tell the stories of student-athletes, coaches, and athletic programs have made this profession incredibly rewarding."

Junot began his career in athletic communications at the University of Louisville in 1997. He joined Virginia Union University as Sports Information Director in 2003 and has spent more than two decades promoting Panther athletics through media relations, website management, feature writing, photography, video production, social media, and event operations.

Throughout his distinguished career, Junot has earned 18 writing awards recognizing excellence in athletic communications and storytelling.

As Sports Information Director, Junot has chronicled some of the most successful periods in Virginia Union athletics history, including NCAA championships, multiple CIAA championships, NCAA Tournament appearances, national award winners, and the recent rise of the Panthers as one of the premier athletic programs in NCAA Division II.

Junot becomes the first Sports Information Director in Virginia Union University history to receive the CSC 25-Year Award.

College Sports Communications is the national professional association for athletics communications professionals, providing education, networking opportunities, and recognition programs for members throughout collegiate athletics.
