VUU Celebrates Lady Panthers' CIAA Championship

PHOTO GALLERY | Virginia Union University honored the Lady Panthers for winning the 2016 CIAA Women's Basketball Championship in a celebration on the VUU campus on Tuesday, March 1, in Richmond, Va.

The VUU band, the Ambassadors of Sound, performed as well as the VUU cheerleaders, the Rah Rahs, while A. Zachary Faison, Vice President for Enrollment Management, and Joe Taylor, VUU Athletic Director, addressed the fans.

VUU's head women's basketball coach, AnnMarie Gilbert, also fired up the crowd by thanking the team along with Athletic Department personnel along with school officials who helped make the season so successful.

"This isn't the first CIAA Championship for the Lady Panthers, and it won't be the last," said Gilbert.

The Lady Panthers are ranked #13 in the nation by USA Today and are the top-ranked team in the Atlantic Region of the NCAA.  VUU hopes to host the first three rounds of the NCAA Tournament, and will find out when the NCAA Selection Show airs at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6.
