Bruni Martinez has been named the 2025-26 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Basketball Player of the Year, the conference announced.
Martinez becomes the first Lady Panther to earn the league's top individual honor since Shareka McNeil received the distinction in 2019. The award recognizes Martinez's dominant performance throughout the regular season and her leadership in guiding VUU to one of its most successful campaigns in recent years.
A consistent offensive force and floor general, Martinez has set the tone for the Lady Panthers on both ends of the court. Her ability to score at all three levels, facilitate the offense, and defend against opposing backcourts has made her one of the most complete players in the CIAA. Night after night, she delivered in critical moments, elevating her teammates and anchoring VUU's championship pursuit.
"I'm extremely proud of Bruni receiving player of the year," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach Alico Dunk. "Her hard work and dedication have paid off. It couldn't have happened to a better person."
Martinez's recognition reflects not only her statistical excellence but also her commitment to preparation, discipline, and team-first basketball. She has been instrumental in establishing the Lady Panthers as a contender in conference play, consistently rising to the occasion against top CIAA competition.
With the postseason underway, Martinez and the Lady Panthers will look to build on this milestone achievement as they continue their pursuit of a CIAA championship.
