The Lady Panthers opened the day with a commanding
20-1 win in Game One. Virginia Union's offense erupted early and often, combining timely hitting with aggressive base running to put the game out of reach. The Lady Panthers produced a barrage of hits throughout the lineup while playing strong defense behind solid pitching from
Elisia Gonzales-Pettis, who earned the win in the circle.
Virginia Union continued its momentum in
Game Two, rallying from an early deficit to defeat Livingstone
13-4. After a slow start, the Lady Panthers responded with a surge of offense in the middle innings, stringing together multiple hits and capitalizing on scoring opportunities.
Skylar Rosenbalm delivered a strong performance in the circle to secure the victory.
"Today was a good day for us all around," said VUU Head Softball Coach
Dominique Mulero. "We were led by excellent pitching by Elisia Gonzales-Pettis and
Skylar Rosenbalm! Those two have been extremely hard working and I'm proud of them both! We were led with a big hitting performance, great defense, and excellent base running in game one. In game two we started out a little flat but quickly turned it on after getting down early, and we never looked back. We have been fighting hard all season and today things went our way which I'm happy for us! We're going to use today to build off of and go into Tuesday with our eyes on another sweep!"
The Lady Panthers will open their home season on
Tuesday, March 10, when Virginia Union hosts
Thomas Jefferson University in a doubleheader beginning at
2:00 p.m. at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Virginia.
