Softball Sweeps Mid-Atlantic Christian 19-0 & 8-0

RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Union University softball team recorded a dominant non-conference doubleheader sweep over Mid-Atlantic Christian University, winning 19-0 and 8-0 on Wednesday, April 1, at the VUU Softball Field.

The victories give the Lady Panthers 12 wins on the season, marking the most wins for the program since the 2022 team finished with 15.

Game One – Virginia Union 19, Mid-Atlantic Christian 0
Virginia Union's offense erupted early and often in the opening game, highlighted by a pair of home runs from Janiya Brown.

Brown blasted a two-run homer in the first inning to give the Lady Panthers an early advantage and later added a solo home run in the fourth inning as VUU continued to pile on runs.

Danae Goree delivered a strong offensive performance as well, driving in four runs. Goree's big moment came in the third inning when she launched a two-run home run.

Chloe Dawson also joined the home run parade, slugging a two-run homer in the fourth inning to extend Virginia Union's commanding lead.

In the circle, Elisia Gonzalez-Pettis was outstanding, tossing a three-hit shutout while striking out five batters over five innings of work.

Game Two – Virginia Union 8, Mid-Atlantic Christian 0
The Lady Panthers struck early again in the second game thanks to a powerful swing from Madison Crace.

Crace launched a three-run home run in the first inning to give VUU an immediate lead that the team would not relinquish.

Skylar Rosenbalm delivered an excellent performance in the circle, scattering four hits while striking out seven batters in a five-inning complete-game shutout.

Coach's Quote
"We came out hot in the first game," said Virginia Union Head Softball Coach Dominique Mulero. "We scored early and we scored a lot. The bats kept going through the entire game. In game two we came out a little flat, but we had good pitching from Skylar. She kept the ball away from the hitters early and had a lot of strikeouts. A win is a win, and we play one game at a time, so we're going to take this and roll into Lincoln and Bowie next week."

Up Next
