Softball Drops Pair of Games to Bowie State

RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Union University softball team dropped a CIAA Northern Division doubleheader to the Bowie State University Bulldogs, falling 9-0 and 7-3 on Saturday, April 11, at the VUU Softball Field.

Game One: Bowie State 9, Virginia Union 0
Bowie State jumped out to an early advantage and maintained control throughout the opening game to secure a 9-0 victory.

The Bulldogs scored multiple runs in the early innings to build momentum and continued to capitalize on opportunities at the plate. Virginia Union struggled to generate offense against Bowie State pitching and was unable to mount a comeback.

Defensively, the Panthers battled through several tough innings but were unable to slow the Bulldogs' offensive production as Bowie State pulled away for the win.

Game Two: Bowie State 7, Virginia Union 3
Virginia Union showed more energy in the second contest and competed closely with Bowie State early before the Bulldogs ultimately pulled away for a 7-3 victory.

The Panthers came out with strong intensity and kept the game within reach in the early innings. Pitcher Skylar Rosenbalm worked to keep the Bulldogs' hitters in check and gave the Panthers a chance to stay competitive throughout the game.

Virginia Union managed to push across three runs offensively but could not overcome Bowie State's timely hitting as the Bulldogs secured the sweep.

Coach's Comments
"In game one, what hurt was the mental mistakes and allowing them to take us out of our game," said VUU Head Softball Coach Dominique Mulero. "They came with all the energy, and we just couldn't match it. In game two we showed fight and life early on, but we had a few calls that did not go our way which hurt us! It was a very tight strike zone today, but Skylar Rosenbalm did everything she could do to keep it around the zone, which is all we could ask of her. We're going to regroup and know that we will see them again and know there will be a different outcome!"

Up Next
Virginia Union will return to action on the road when the Panthers travel to Elizabeth City, North Carolina, to face the Elizabeth City State University Vikings on Saturday, April 18.
