RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Union University women's tennis team earned a 5–3 victory over Bowie State University in a CIAA matchup held Tuesday, March 24, at Battery Park.
The Lady Panthers bounced back after dropping both doubles contests by identical 6–3 scores. Despite the early deficit, Virginia Union responded with a dominant performance in singles play to secure the team victory.
In singles competition,
Briana Velinor set the tone with a convincing 6–0, 6–2 win.
Bethany Himalaya followed with a strong showing, defeating her opponent 6–4, 6–0.
Maya Mercer added another point for the Lady Panthers with a 6–0, 6–4 victory.
Marianna Brooks capped the singles surge with a decisive 6–3, 6–0 win, helping Virginia Union clinch the match.
"The VUU tennis team is starting to show some know-how in skills and fair play," said Virginia Union head women's tennis coach
Gabriel Kotto.
With the win, the Lady Panthers continue to build momentum as the season progresses.
Virginia Union will return to action on Tuesday, April 7, when the Lady Panthers travel to face rival Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia
