RICHMOND, Va. — The
Virginia Union University women's tennis team hosted
Elizabeth City State University on Tuesday, March 17, at
Battery Park. The Lady Panthers continued to gain valuable match experience as the team progresses through the early portion of the 2026 season.
"The tennis team as expected has improved their games and they are enhancing their tennis skills after a well fought battle against ECSU," said VUU Head Tennis Coach Gabriel Kotto.
In singles competition,
Briana Velinor fell to Reichel Freytes (1-6, 2-6), while
Alana Simmons dropped her match to Micah Williams (2-6, 1-6).
Madison Hill was defeated by Kala Price (1-6, 0-6).
Bethany Himalaya lost to Nadhira Dorham (1-6, 0-6), and
Marianna Brooks fell to Kennedy Rollins (0-6, 1-6).
In doubles play, the duo of
Andrea Sanjurjo and
Bethany Himalaya fell 1-6 to the pairing of Nadira Dorham and Marley Renner. The team of
Alana Simmons and
Maya Mercer also dropped their match 1-6 to Micah Williams and Kennedy Rollins.
Virginia Union will now turn its attention to conference competition as the Lady Panthers travel to
Bluefield, W.V., for the
CIAA Tennis Roundup, scheduled for March 21–22.
