Lady Panthers Fall to Bowie State in a Hard-Fought Battle

BOWIE, Md. — The Virginia Union University women's basketball team dropped a 67–64 decision on the road to Bowie State University on Saturday afternoon in CIAA action.

Virginia Union battled throughout but was forced to play from behind after early turnovers led to scoring opportunities for the host team. The Lady Panthers responded with a strong second-half effort, trimming the deficit and putting themselves in position late, but were unable to complete the comeback.

Leading Scorers for VUU Somerville led all scorers for Virginia Union, delivering an efficient offensive performance to keep the Lady Panthers within striking distance. Johnson added double figures, while Blackwell, Robinson and Martinez contributed key buckets in the second half surge.

Coach's Comments
"We made too many mistakes early," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach Alico Dunk. "I have to credit Bowie with forcing turnovers. I'm proud of the way we played in the second half."
