RICHMOND, Va. (November 3, 2026) – Several hundred Virginia Union University students participated in the university's annual Unity Walk on Tuesday, November 3, joining together to promote civic engagement and encourage voter participation in the 2026 Mid-Term Elections.
Led by the Virginia Union University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), along with the Ambassadors of Sound and the Rah Rahs, the students marched from the Henderson Center on the VUU campus to the Richmond Police Training Academy, located at 1202 West Graham Road in Richmond. The approximately 1,000-foot walk provided VUU students with an opportunity to exercise their right to vote at the local polling location.
The event, themed
"A Pause for a Cause," focused this year on racial justice and anti-lynching awareness. The Unity Walk was organized in partnership with Virginia Union University's External Affairs office and included a special emphasis on voter education and participation through the initiative, "Rally to the Polls for Voters Awareness."
The students were joined by Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan and William F. McGee, president of the Richmond Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), who participated in the event and supported the university's efforts to encourage civic responsibility and community engagement.
The Unity Walk also featured a DJ, performances by the university's band and cheer programs, a keynote speaker and food trucks, creating an atmosphere of campus unity while emphasizing the importance of voting and social responsibility.
The annual event reflects Virginia Union University's longstanding commitment to social justice, civic leadership, and community involvement. By bringing together student-athletes, student organizations and members of the university community, the Unity Walk encouraged students to recognize the importance of their voices and their role in shaping the future through the democratic process.
The Unity Walk is powered by the Virginia Union University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
