Virginia Union University's Anthony Michael has been named the CIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Year, the CIAA announced on Thursday, April 28.

Michael, a senior student-athlete from Nigeria, is ranked #1 on the Virginia Union University team, Michael is 5-2 in CIAA singles matches (9-2 overall) and 5-3 in conference doubles (9-3 overall).

Individually, Michael won 10 of 12 matches this season and finished with an .833 winning percentage.

The Virginia Union men's tennis team opens play in the 2016 CIAA Tennis Championships with a match-up against Johnson C. Smith University on Thursday, April 28, in Raleigh, N.C.
