The Virginia Union University women's tennis team secured their first victory of the season with a 4-3 win over Bowie State University on Tuesday, March 18, in Bowie, Md.
Madison Hill, a sophomore from Laurel, Md., who is majoring in Finance, led the way for the Lady Panthers, dominating her match with a 6-0, 6-3 victory. In addition,
Bethany Himalaya, a freshman from Kapolei, Hi., who is majoring in Criminal Justice, and
Alana Simmons, a freshman from Upper Marlboro, N.C., majoring in Computer Information Systems, each claimed singles victories by default.
The doubles team of
Andrea Sanjurjo, a senior from Carolina, P.R., who is majoring in Health Sciences, and
Ga'Leisha Miller, a senior from Gainesville, Fla., majoring in Biology, also impressed, winning their match 6-2.
"We are excited to say we have our first win under our belts," said VUU Head Tennis Coach Gerri "Gigi" Carter-Thurston. "Our girls played well today, and we are going to continue the momentum when we play against Virginia State at the end of the month!"
The Lady Panthers will face Virginia State University on Saturday, March 29, at Battery Park in Richmond, Va.
