Virginia Union University will face Wingate University in the first round of the NCA Division II Football Playoffs at 1:00 p.m. On Saturday, November 23, in Wingate, N.C., it was announced on Sunday, November 17.

Wingate, N.C., is located 30 miles southeast of Charlotte, N.C.

The Panthers will enter the playoffs as the seventh seed in Super Region 2 while Wingate is seeded second.

The game will be a rematch of the 2022 NCAA Playoff game, which Wingate won in Hovey Field.

This marks the third straight year where Virginia Union has made the NCAA Playoffs, a feat matched by the 1981, 1982 and 1983 teams.

VUU will enter the game with an 8-3 record and as champions of the CIAA while Wingate enters the game as SAC champions with a 9-1 record.

This will only be the third meeting between Virginia Union and Wingate.  Beside the 2022 Playoff Game, Wingate won over VUU on September 5, 2001, in Wingate, N.C.

"This feeling never gets old," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr. Alvin Parker.  "When you see your name pop up on the screen, it's always something to get excited about.  It means that you've done something pretty good during the season, and I think our body of work speaks for itself.  I felt good about our chances leading up to the selection show, but the feeling never gets old."
