VUU Dominates Bluefield State 70-14 in Record-Setting Night

Virginia Union University football delivered a dominant performance on the road Saturday, November 1, defeating Bluefield State 70–14 at Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield, W.V. The Panthers improved to 8–1 overall and 7–0 in CIAA play behind an explosive offensive showing that produced a school-record 721 yards of total offense.

Senior running back Curtis Allen led the charge with a school-record 369 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 26 carries, including scoring runs of 84 and 85 yards. The 369 yards broke the single-game rushing mark of 319 yards set by Jada Byers in 2022 and highlighted one of the best individual performances in program history.

Quarterback RJ Rosales was efficient under center, completing 6 of 8 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding a one-yard rushing score. Wide receiver Larry Hackey caught three passes for 86 yards and a touchdown, and Zyaire Tart opened the scoring with a 34-yard touchdown reception.

Virginia Union's defense limited Bluefield State to just 61 yards rushing and forced two turnovers. Linebacker Ahmad Ross led the defensive effort with seven tackles and a forced fumble, while Jason Mitchell added an interception.

"The team came into this game locked in and ready to compete," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr. Alvin Parker. "Playing on the road always brings its challenges, but I was proud of how everyone responded. This was truly a total program effort, and I couldn't be prouder to lead this group."

With the win, VUU remains unbeaten in CIAA play and moves one step closer to a berth in the CIAA Championship Game.

The Panthers return home to Hovey Field on November 8 to take on Virginia State University in the annual Battle of I-95.
