VUU Remains Undefeated in CIAA Play with Win Over Bowie State

RICHMOND, VA – The Virginia Union University football team extended its winning streak with a decisive 24–7 victory over Bowie State University on Saturday afternoon at Hovey Field. The win improved the Panthers to 7–1 overall and 5–0 in CIAA play.

Quarterback RJ Rosales led the charge through the air, completing 9 of 18 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns. His first came on a 27-yard strike to Jeremiah Francis in the opening quarter, setting the tone for the day. Rosales later connected with Ricky Key, Jr. for a 36-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

On the ground, senior running back Curtis Allen powered the offense with 198 rushing yards and a 34-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to seal the win. As a team, VUU totaled 418 yards of offense — 280 rushing and 138 passing — while holding Bowie State to just 201 total yards.

The Panthers' defense delivered another dominant performance, recording six sacks and forcing a fumble. Linebacker Lamumba Howard anchored the unit with a game-high 18 tackles, including three sacks. Howard's 18 tackles were the most by a VUU player since Kevin Williams' school-record of 22 tackles set against Central State University in 1991.

Ahmad Ross added nine tackles, while Zachary Weaver tallied five tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.

"I'm really proud of the guys for the win today," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr. Alvin Parker. "Our defense played lights out from start to finish, and the offense stayed consistent and executed when we needed it most. We knew Bowie was going to come in and play us tough, but our team stayed focused and rose to the challenge. I'm happy with the way we competed and the way everyone stepped up to get the job done today."

Virginia Union returns to action next Saturday, November 1, when the Panthers travel to face Bluefield State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
