VUU Gains 37-18 Road Win Over Elizabeth City State

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — Virginia Union University continued its strong start to the 2025 season with a decisive 37–18 victory over Elizabeth City State University on Saturday, October 11, at Roebuck Stadium.

Senior running back Curtis Allen led the Panthers' ground attack with 163 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries, pacing an offense that totaled 412 yards. Senior quarterback RJ Rosales added balance through the air, completing 8 of 13 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns — including a 70-yard strike to Keon Davis, who finished with six receptions for 175 yards and two scores.

Virginia Union (5–1 overall, 3–0 CIAA) opened with a quick 7–0 lead after Rosales connected on a 55-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. After a back-and-forth second quarter, the Panthers extended their lead in the third on Davis's long touchdown grab and a 29-yard field goal by Brady Myers, who also went 4-for-5 on extra points.

Allen sealed the win with touchdown runs of five yards and 30 yards in the fourth quarter, capping off Virginia Union's third straight road victory.

Defensively, the Panthers limited Elizabeth City State (1–5, 1–3 CIAA) to just 209 total yards. Senior defensive end Zachary Weaver recorded a key 17-yard sack, while Mekhi Lewis led the team with six tackles.
"Elizabeth City was a tough opponent, and their record doesn't reflect the quality of their team," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr. Alvin Parker. "We competed hard in all phases of the game, which led to a solid road victory. After three straight games on the road, our team showed tremendous heart and character. I'm proud of this group and the way they continue to battle."
With the win, Virginia Union remains unbeaten in CIAA play. The Panthers return home for Homecoming 2025 to face Lincoln University of Pennsylvania at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18 at Hovey Field in Richmond, Va.
