The Griffin Invitational was played at The Country Club of Petersburg in Petersburg, VA on Monday and Tuesday, September 18th, and 19th, 2023. The Invitational was contested over 54 holes and in honor of Griffin Clark.  

On July 4th, 2016, Griffin Clark passed away in a car accident just mile away from his home in Virginia. He was 21 years old and at what seemed to be the peak of his life, only to have it cut short. Clark was a redshirt sophomore on the men's golf team where he helped the Saint Leo Lions win their first ever-national championship. Clark's winning matchup against Chico State's Kelley Sullivan sealed the victory for Saint Leo University its first national title in any sport.  

VUU team scoring was led by Grad Students – Alkin Barkley (72/75/71) and Travon Willis (75/73/70) tied for 18th with a score 218), followed by Freshman Brady Wood tied for 47th with a score of 226 (73/78/75), Grad Student - Zaccheus Spann tied for 55th with a score of 228 (78/72/78), tied 48th, Senior Joseph Graham tied 73rd with a score of 239 (85/76/78) and followed by Freshman Joseph Boone playing as an Individual finished 76th with a score of 241 (85/79/77).    

"While this was a strong field the guys responded and for the first time since we have gone to the 54-hole format, the team broke 300 all three rounds. Our goal has always been to break 300 and they truly responded during this tournament. Coach Bowers and I could not be prouder of their performance during the Seventh Annual Griffin Invitational. We were honored to have been invited to play in The Seventh Annual Griffin Invitational," says Coach Coble.
