For the first time in school history, three athletic programs advanced to the NCAA Regional Championship in the 2022-23 school year at Virginia Union University.
The football, men's basketball and golf teams were all invited to their respective NCAA Championship Tournaments.
The VUU football program not only advanced to the NCAA Playoffs, the Panthers also hosted an NCAA Playoff Game for the first time since 1990, a span of 32 years.
The men's basketball team finished 24-8 overall and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018. The Panthers achieved their first NCAA Tournament win since 2007 when VUU downed Fairmont State University 66-64 in Indiana, Pa.
For the first time in recent history, both the Virginia Union University football team and the VUU men's basketball team have recorded wins over the #2-ranked teams in the nation within the same calendar year.
The football Panthers defeated #2-ranked Valdosta State University 45-40 on Saturday, September 10, in Valdosta, Ga.
The basketball team downed #2-ranked Augusta University 83-62 on Saturday, December 3, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
This season the NCAA announced that the Virginia Union golf team has been selected to participate in the regional competition of the 2023 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship. Regional play will be conducted May 11-13.  The Atlantic/East Region Championship will be contested at The Iron Valley Golf Club in Lebanon, Pa.
VUU was ranked in the top 10 in the Atlantic Region throughout the 2022-23 Golf Season. Â VUU finished in 5th place in the final ranking done by the NCAA Regional Committee Meeting on Friday, April 28.
