Burroughs Named VUU Softball Coach

Virginia Union University has named Fred Burroughs as the new Head Coach of the Lady Panther Softball Team, it was announced on Friday, August 14.
 
Burroughs has been an assistant coach on the VUU Men's Basketball Team for the past four seasons and previously coached softball at Bowie State University.  While at Bowie State, Burroughs won 25 or more games in each of his last three seasons and won two CIAA Championships.
 
"The team that I'm inheriting at VUU is better than the team I started both times with at Bowie State," Burroughs said.  "I know I may be putting pressure on myself, but I expect nothing less.  I told the girls that we've got to get it done."
 
Burroughs possesses 26 years of collegiate coaching experience in Men's and Women's Basketball and Softball.   His coaching experience has culminated  in winning the 2003 CIAA Championship with the Men's Basketball team at Bowie State University (Assistant Coach).   Burroughs won the 2007 and 2008 CIAA Championship in softball while at Bowie State University.   Burroughs was also named the 2007  Softball Coach  of the Year by the CIAA.  In addition, he recruited two CIAA Players of the Year. (Men's Basketball).  And a two-time CIAA Softball Player of the Year.
 
Burroughs was born in New York, N.Y.  He is a graduate of Rice High School.  And competed in basketball and cross country.
 
Burroughs earned his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from Belford University in Houston, Tex.
 
Burroughs resides in Richmond, Va.  and is the proud father of three daughters, LaTonya,  LaTesha,  and India, and the grandfather to four beautiful grandchildren.
