Shontel Linnette struck out 14 batters over the course of two games as the Lady Panthers split a softball double-header against Bowie State University 4-2 and 10-3 on Friday, April 6, in Bowie, Md.
In the first game, Linnette struck out eight in six innings of work while teammate Bréana Miller collected two hits. The Bulldogs, however, were able to outlast VUU 4-2.
In the second game, however, it was all Virginia Union.
Linnette struck out six over seven innings of work while also slugging a two-run double.
VUU scored seven runs in the second inning against Bowie State. VUU's
Kimberly Davis started the inning with a double and eventually scored on a fly ball by Miller. Linnette then doubled in two more runs. Linnette would score the eventual winning run on a triple by
Audrenik Howard.
The Lady Panthers are now 9-6 overall and 4-4 in CIAA play. Bowie State fell to 8-13 overall and 4-7 in the CIAA.
Virginia Union now returns home to face Lincoln (Pa.) University in a double-header at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 8, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.
