Virginia Union University's women's tennis season came to an end when Winston-Salem State University defeated the Lady Panthers 5-0 on the first day of the CIAA Tennis Championships, held on Thursday, April 19, in Bowie, Md.
The fourth-seeded Winston-Salem State Rams rounded out the day when the team took a 5-0 win over the fifth-seeded  Panthers in the fourth match of the day. The duo of Avion Harris and Cylah Gaither got things started with an 8-0 win at #2 doubles while the team took 8-2 wins at #1 and #3 doubles to go ahead 3-0 heading into singles play. WSSU's China Brown took a 6-0, 6-0 win at #4 singles before Aja Grant closed the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #3 singles.
The loss gives VUU a final 2018 record of 10-7.
