Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Virginia Union University's softball team defeated CIAA arch-rival Virginia State University 7-2 and 9-5 on Saturday, April 21, in Petersburg, Va., to complete the Lady Panthers' first-ever double-header sweep of the Lady Trojans.

In a program with records dating back to 1985, the Lady Panthers had never taken two games from the Trojans in a single day.

In the first game, VUU's Shontel Linnette struck out nine VSU batters while scattering four hits to earn her eighth win of the year.  

VUU's freshman Audrenik Howard drove in two runs.

In the second game, Linnette earned her ninth win of the season by pitching all seven innings.  Linnette now has 14 complete games this season.

VUU's Yazmine Lewis drove in three runs on with a pair of singles.

The wins raised Virginia Union's record to 15-8 overall and gives VUU a final regular-season CIAA record of 10-6.  Virginia State fell to 17-14 overall and 11-4 in CIAA play.

VUU wraps up the 2018 regular season when they meet Bowie State University in a single non-conference game at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, in Bowie, Md.
