Box Score 2 Virginia Union University's women's softball team exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning of the first game, then
Bréana Miller struck out 10 while allowing on one hit in the second game as VUU swept Elizabeth City State University 11-2 and 10-1 on Senior Day on Saturday, April 14, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.
VUU saluted the seniors, Miller,
Shontel Linnette,
Ro'Shaila Williams and
Karrina Gooding between the two games.
In the first game, Linnette allowed just two hits while striking out seven over five innings of work. Â
The offensive fireworks were provided by freshman
Audrenik Howard, who blasted her second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth inning.
In the second game, Miller also drove in two runs with a double and a single. On the mound, Miller set down the first nine ECSU batters she faced.
The wins raised VUU's record to 13-6 overall and 8-4 in the CIAA. Elizabeth City State fell to 1-25 overall and 1-11 in CIAA play.
The wins also put Virginia Union in sole possession of second place in the Northern Division of the CIAA. The Lady Panthers will travel to Murfreesboro, N.C., to face the division-leading Hawks of Chowan University in a double-header beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 15.
