Shontel Linnette struck out 19 batters over two games, with VUU gaining a split on the second day of the CIAA Round-Up on Saturday, March 17.
Johnson C. Smith University defeated the Lady Panthers in extra-innings 6-5 while VUU got back on the winning track by downing Livingstone College 10-4 in Elizabeth City, N.C.
In the first game, Linnette struck out 10 in seven innings of work.
VUU's Khayla Easley hit her first home run for the Lady Panthers, circling the bases on an inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning.

Ro'Shaila Williams drove in two runs on a double in the second innings while VUU's Bréana Miller slugged three doubles in the game.
In the night-cap, Linnette came on in relief of Miller in the fourth inning and proceeded to collect nine strikeouts against Livingstone.
Linnette continued her torrid hitting as she slammed a two-run homer in the fourth inning, driving in two runs.
Linnette also doubled in the second inning, driving in two more runs.
The win raised VUU's record to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the CIAA. Â
Virginia Union now faces Saint Augustine's University and Shaw University on the final day of the CIAAÂ Round-Up on Sunday, March 18, in Elizabeth City, N.C.
