Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Virginia Union University's Shontel Linnette slugged two homers while striking out 11 over two games as VUU defeated Winston-Salem State University 9-6 and then downed Fayetteville State University 10-3 on the first day of the CIAA Round-Up on Friday, March 16, in Elizabeth City, N.C.

Linnette slammed a three-run homer in the first inning against Winston-Salem State and then drove in two more runs on a single in the third inning for a total of five runs batted in against WSSU.

VUU's Audrenik Howard also drove in two runs in the contest.

On the mound, Linnette struck out eight Ram batters while scattering eight hits over seven innings of work.

In the second game of the day, Linnette swatted another three-run homer in the fifth inning while also driving in another run in the sixth inning.

On the day, Linnette drove in nine runs.

VUU's Kimberly Davis drove in two runs against Fayetteville State on two hits.

Linnette also turned in a stellar performance on the mound, allowing just two hits while striking out three Bronco batters over six innings of work.

The wins raised Virginia Union's record to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in CIAA play.  

The Lady Panthers will face Johnson C. Smith University and Livingstone College on Saturday, March 17, on the second day of the CIAA Round-Up in Elizabeth City, N.C.
