Softball Sweeps Bluefield State in Season Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Virginia Union Panthers softball team opened up their 2017-2018 season with two home wins against Bluefield State on Saturday, March 3. The first-game of the double header the Panthers won with a score of 11-2. Senior Ro'shaila Williams lead the Panther's offense going 2 for 3 with four RBIs. Sophomore Yazmine Lewis and Freshman Annie Brenner were both 1 for 3 with two RBIs. On the mound senior Shontel Linnette pitched a complete game only allowing three hits, striking out four and walking one.
 
The Panthers won the second game with a score of 8-7. Continuing her hot hitting from the first game Yazmine Lewis went 4 for 4 with three singles and one double. Right behind her making her collegiate debut freshman Audrey Howard went 3 for 4 with a solo home run. Senior Kimberly Davis was 2 for 4 with five RBIs. Going the distance in the circle again was Shontel Linnette. Linnette struck out 10 batters and walked three while allowing seven hits in her seven innings of work
