Box Score Virginia Union University's women's basketball team clinched its third straight CIAA Northern Division title by defeating Elizabeth City State University 51-43 on Wednesday, February 21, in Elizabeth City, N.C.
VUU got double-double performances from both
Rachael Pecota and
Jasmine Carter. Pecota, a senior from San Francisco, Cal., finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Carter, a junior from Richmond, Va., scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Virginia Union's
Shareka McNeill, a true freshman from Charlotte, N.C., scored nine points while VUU's
Rejoice Spivey, a junior from Alexandria, Va., scored eight points and had five steals.
The win raised VUU's record to 24-2 overall and 14-1 in the CIAA. The Lady Panthers continued to hold on to the #1 spot in the Atlantic Region of the NCAA after the rankings were released earlier on February 21.
Elizabeth City State fell to 9-18 overall and 2-13 in CIAA play.
Virginia Union wraps up the 2017-18 regular season when the Lady Panthers face Chowan University at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
The Lady Panthers will begin play in the 2018 CIAA Tournament on Wednesday, February 28, in Charlotte, N.C. Game times and opponent will be announced on Saturday, February 24.
