The Virginia Union University women's basketball team is ranked #1 in the Atlantic Region in the first regional rankings done by the NCAA, it was revealed on Wednesday, February 14.
The Lady Panthers are 22-2 overall and 20-2 in Atlantic Region games.
There will be three more regional rankings to be released on a weekly basis, with the final regional rankings to be revealed at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 4.
If VUU is the #1 team in the Atlantic Region on March 4, the Lady Panthers will have the first right-of-refusal to host the first three rounds of the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament.
Virginia Union last hosted the Atlantic Regionals in 2016 in Barco-Stevens Hall.
The Lady Panthers host CIAA opponent Lincoln (Pa.) University at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
