Virginia Union University's
Jewison Dawkins,
Sterling Hammond and
Tabyus Taylor have all earned weekly CIAA Player Honors, the CIAA announced on Wednesday, October 17.
Dawkins, a senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was named CIAA Receiver of the Week. Dawkins caught four passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns in VUU's 48-38 win over Chowan on Saturday. His catches included a 51-yard scoring strike for the eventual winning score.
Hammond, a junior from Caret, Va., was named CIAA Defensive Back of the Week. Hammond had eight tackles and an interception in VUU's 48-38 win over Chowan on Saturday. He also had a tackle for a loss of 23 yards.
Taylor, a sophomore from Hopewell, Va., was named the CIAA Offensive Back of the Week. Taylor rushed for 177 yards and four touchdowns in VUU's 48-38 win over Chowan on Saturday. He became the first Virginia Union player to rush for four touchdowns in a single game since Cassious McDowell in 2014 and now has 15 rushing TDs on the season, tying him for second place on the single-season TD rushing list.
VUU will play Bowie State University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, at Hovey Field in Richmond, Va.
