RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia Union University football standout
Curtis Allen has been selected to participate in the American Bowl, an all-star showcase featuring top collegiate talent from across the country.
Allen's selection caps a historic 2025 season in which he earned multiple national and conference honors. He became the
first HBCU student-athlete to win the Harlon Hill Award, presented annually to the most outstanding player in NCAA Division II football. Allen was also named the
CIAA Offensive Player of the Year and received the
Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Year Award, further cementing his status as one of the nation's premier players.
The American Bowl provides an opportunity for players to compete alongside and against Football Bowl Subdivision (i.e. Big Ten, ACC, SEC, Big 12) athletes in front of professional scouts and a national television audience.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for Curtis, and we at Virginia Union could not be prouder of him," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr.
Alvin Parker. "He has earned this moment through his dedication, work ethic, and commitment to excellence, and he continues to represent our program, our university, and the CIAA at the highest level. We will be watching closely as he takes this next step and wish him nothing but the best of luck as he continues to chase his dreams"
"Curtis is excited about the opportunity to play against and with FBS talent," said VUU Assistant Football Coach
Diego Ryland, who is with Allen at the American Bowl practices. "He is laser focused and ready to make every rep count, as he has been taught to take advantage of any chance you get to showcase your talent at Virginia Union University."
The American Bowl is scheduled for January 22 at 8 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla. and will air nationally on the NFL Network.
Allen will be wearing #30 and will play for the Guardians (in the white jerseys).
Allen's participation continues Virginia Union's tradition of developing elite student-athletes who excel on the national stage.
