Alexis Johnson scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds as the fourth-ranked Lady Panthers marched to their 20th straight win, beating Claflin University 68-50 on Wednesday, January 31, in Orangeburg, S.C.
Johnson also had two blocks to keep her at #9 in the country in blocked shots.
VUU's talented freshman,
Shareka McNeill, had 14 points while senior teammate
Rachael Pecota grabbed 11 rebounds.
Only two teams in the nation have won 20 or more straight games, VUU and defending NCAA champion Ashland University (Ashland's win streak stands at an NCAA-record 57 straight games).
VUU is also only the second CIAA team to win 20 or more straight games in a single season. Shaw University won a CIAA-record 26 straight games in the 2005-06 season.
Virginia Union is now 20-1 on the season while Claflin fell to 13-10.
The Lady Panthers now travel to Murfreesboro, N.C., to face Chowan University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3.Â
