Rachael Pecota scored a game-high 27 points to lead the 7th-ranked Lady Panthers to their 17th straight win, a 74-56 win over Bowie State University on Saturday, January 20, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
Pecota had 19 points in the first half alone, and finished by hitting 10 of 14 shots from the field.
VUU's
Shareka McNeill scored 19 points while teammate
Jasmine Carter led all players on the boards with 11 rebounds.
Virginia Union's
Alexis Johnson also added 12 points in the win.
The 17-game winning streak is the second-longest in the nation while also being the second-longest in the history of the VUU women's program. The school-record for most consecutive wins is 18, set last season.
Virginia Union is now 17-1 overall on the season and 8-0 in CIAA play. Bowie State fell to 12-5 overall and 5-3 in the CIAA.
VUU now travels to Lincoln University, Pa., to face Lincoln (Pa.) University at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24.
