Bowie State Edges Lady Panthers in Double-Header

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Virginia Union University's Karrina Gooding hit her fourth consecutive home run while teammate Janaya Harris had four hits, but Bowie State University defeated the Lady Panthers 9-7 and 5-2 in a softball double-header on Sunday, April 2, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.

Gooding's blast came in the second inning of the first game and, when coupled with the three straight homers she hit against Lincoln (Pa.) on Saturday, gave the outfielder a school-record four home runs in four straight at-bats.

The Lady Panthers entered the seventh inning of the first game trailing 9-4, but VUU scored three runs on a double by Ro'Shaila Williams and a single by Harris, but Bowie State was able to stem the rally before the Lady Panthers could plate the tying run.

In the second game, VUU scored a run in the fourth inning on a single by Harris and another in the sixth inning when Bowie's Nicholene Ochoa committed an error.

The losses dropped VUU's record to 4-11 while Bowie State is now 10-12.

Virginia Union now travels to Elizabeth City, N.C., to face Elizabeth City State University at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 8.
