Alexis Johnson recorded a double-double with a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Panthers surged past Winston-Salem State University 68-48 on Monday, January 2, in Historic Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
The win kept the Lady Panthers undefeated at 10-0 while also giving VUU a 1-0 CIAA record.
"I'm really ecstatic about the way our team played," said VUU Head Coach
AnnMarie Gilbert. Â "We were a little rusty coming off of Christmas break. Â It was a nine-day break with just 5 to 6 days of practice, but I'm really pleased at how it all came together."

Lady Walker also recorded a double with 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds while
Jayda Luckie added 13 points of her own.

Ashley Smith had some strong attacks. Â I was really pleased at our effort."
VUU is off to the best start in 19 years with a 10-0 start. Â It was also the 19th straight home win for the Lady Panthers. Â The school record is 25 straight home wins, set between 1981 and 1983.
Winston-Salem State fell to 5-8 overall and 1-2 in CIAA play.
Virginia Union now travels to Raleigh, N.C., to face Shaw University at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 5.
