William Dillon on College Football Hall of Fame Ballot

Virginia Union University's William Dillon, who played football for VUU from 1979-82, has been named to the 2017 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot, the National Football Foundation announced on Thursday, June 2.

Dillon was a three-time first-team All-American at free safety for Virginia Union in 1980, 1981 and 1982.  He tallied 16 interceptions in 1983... Dillon was also the 1983 Black College Player of the Year and Two-time First-Team All-CIAA selection and was twice the CIAA Player of the Year (1981-82).

During his four seasons at VUU, the Panthers were 38-8-2 and went to four straight NCAA Division II playoffs.

He finished with 30 career interceptions, including 11 in 1981, and was invited to the preseason training camp of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks.

Dillon was inducted into the VUU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008 and the Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame in 2015.  He joins current VUU Athletic Director Joe Taylor as the only two Virginia Union representatives on the 2017 Hall of Fame Ballot.

The announcement of the 2017 Class will be made Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, in Tampa, Fla. The city is serving as the host for the CFP National Championship, which will be played Jan. 9 at Raymond James Stadium. Some of the inductees will be on site at the press conference to represent the class and share their thoughts on the announcement. The Jan. 6 announcement will be televised live, and specific viewing information will be available as the date draws near. Inductees will also participate in the pregame festivities and the coin toss on Jan. 9.

The 2017 class will be inducted at the 60th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Dec. 5, 2017, at the landmark Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. The inductees will be permanently enshrined at the new College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta later that December and honored on the field during the 13th Annual National Hall of Fame Salute during the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
