Virginia Union University's
Taylor Hamilton slammed two home runs while
Jareece Sayles pitched two shutouts as VUU swept Elizabeth City State University 1-0 and 9-0 on Saturday, April 16, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.
In between the games of the double-header, VUU saluted the four seniors on the Lady Panthers: Â
Shekinah Stewart,
Taylor Hamilton,
Shaquandra Brown and
Tyana Daniels.
In the first game, Sayles held ECSU scoreless through seven innings, scattering six hits and striking out four to pick up the win.
The Lady Panthers scored the winning run in the seventh inning when Daniels singled with one out. Â Sayles followed with a double, scoring Daniels.
In the second game, Hamilton drove in six runs with two homers while Sayles pitched six inning of shut-out ball. Â Hamilton hit her first homer in the third inning and her second in the sixth inning. Â Sayles struck out seven batters in the win.
VUU's Breanna Miller ended the game by slugging a two-run home run.
The wins gave VUU a 14-11 record overall and a 7-6 record in CIAA play.
The Lady Panthers are now scheduled to travel to Murfreesboro, N.C., on Sunday, April 17, to face Chowan University.
