Box Score Virginia Union University's
Kiana Johnson set a school record with 45 points in a single game while also becoming the school's single season scoring queen as the Lady Panthers defeated Lincoln (Pa.) University 85-68 on Saturday, February 13, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
Johnson's 45 points eclipsed the previous mark of 44, set by Marquietta Randolph against Winston-Salem State University on January 26, 1995.
Johnson also passed Randolph's single-season scoring mark of 587 points, set in 1994-95. Â Johnson has now scord 622 points, making her the first Lady Panther to score over 600 points in a single season.
VUU's
Lady Walker scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, giving the junior her 13th double-double on the season. Â
The win raised Virginia Union's record to 20-2 overall on the season, marking the first time a Lady Panther team has won 20 or more games since the 2003-04 team won 24 games. Â The Lady Panthers are also 12-2 in the CIAA and sit atop first place of the Northern Division with a 7-1 record.
Chowan University is also 12-2 in the CIAA and 7-1 in the Northern Division, but the Lady Panthers hold the edge by virtue of VUU's 76-64 win over the Hawks on January 30. Â The two teams will meet in Barco-Stevens Hall on Saturday, February 20.
Lincoln fell to 13-9 overall and 8-6 in the CIAA.
Virginia Union now travels to Elizabeth City, N.C., to face Elizabeth City State University at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17.
