Box Score Virginia Union University's Shekinah Stewart scored three runs while Marisha Bates scored twice as VUU defeated Elizabeth City State University 8-4 on Saturday, April 18, in Elizabeth City, N.C.

The win propelled the Lady Panthers, with a 5-0 divisional record, into sole possession of first place of the Northern Division of the CIAA.  Chowan University, which had shared first place with VUU, lost to Virginia State University earlier in the day.

VUU scored twice in the first inning when Breana Miller and Shontel Linnette drove home a pair of runs.

Virginia Union scored three more times in the second inning on singles by Bates and Taylor Hamilton.

VUU's Quincy Lewis picked up the win.

The second game of the double-header was rained out, and it will be made up on Friday, April 24, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.

VUU now faces Chowan University in a Northern Division showdown at 12:00 noon on Sunday, April 19, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.
