Box Score 2 Virginia Union University's
Quincy Lewis threw the first no-hitter in school history as she shut down Lincoln University 13-0 at the VUU Softball Field on Saturday, March 28, in Richmond, Va.
Lewis had a no-hitter in 2012, but that was against Rappahannock Community College, a game which wasn't recognized by the CIAA.
Lewis started out strong, striking out four of the first six batters she faced. Â She would strike out a total of five in the game.
VUU got all the runs they would need when the Lady Panthers scored three times in the bottom of the first inning.
Tyana Daniels singled up the middle with one out, driving in
Taylor Hamilton and
Shaquandra Brown. Â Daniels would end up with five RBIs in the first game.
In the second game, VUU's Hamilton provided the big bat, slugging two home runs while
Shontel Linnette shut down Lincoln from on the mound as VUU defeated the Lions 15-2.
Hamilton slugged a homer to left field in the first inning and then drove the ball out of the deepest part of centerfield in the second inning.
Linnette gave up just three hits while going the distance in the five inning-win for VUU. Â She struck out six and gave up no earned runs in the outing.
The wins raised VUU's record to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in CIAA play. Â The wins also propelled the Lady Panthers to the top of the CIAA's Northern Division with a perfect 2-0 record.
Lincoln dropped to 0-14 overall and 0-8 in CIAA play.
The Lady Panthers remain at home and will face Bowie State University at 12 noon in a double-header at the VUU Softball Field on Sunday, March 29, in Richmond, Va.Â
