Shontel Linnette gave up no earned runs while striking out four as the Lady Panthers swept Elizabeth City State University 13-12 and 9-3 in softball at the VUU Softball Field on Sunday, March 15.
In the first game, Virginia Union's
Taylor Hamilton slammed a two-run homer in the first inning as the Lady Panthers scored four runs.Â
VUU then added seven more runs in a third inning where Marisha Bates drove in three runs with a double. Â Two more runs in the sixth inning sealed the win for VUU.
VUU's
Quincy Lewis went the distance in the first game to notch the win.
In the second game, Linnette was dominant on the mound, giving up just four hits.
The Lady Panthers got all the runs they would need in the first inning when they scored four runs on singles by
Shaquandra Brown,
Tyana Daniels and
Amber Jordan. Â
The wins raised VUU's record to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the CIAA. Â Elizabeth City State is now 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the CIAA.
Virginia Union now travels to Raleigh, N.C., to compete in the CIAA Round-Up. Â The Lady Panthers will meet Winston-Salem State University at 2:00 p.m. and then will play Fayetteville State University at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 20.
