Kiana Johnson hit a layup with one second left to life the Lady Panthers to a 73-72 win over the University of Pitts-Johnstown on the second day of the Shepherd University Classic, held on Sunday, November 15, in Shepherdstown, W.V.
Johnson finished with 33 points, the most for a Lady Panther since Ashlé Freeman scored 34 points against Elizabeth City State University on February 24, 2014.
The win also raised the Lady Panthers to 2-0, marking the first time the VUU women's team opened with two straight wins since 2002.
VUU's
Ashley Smith and
Lady Walker scored 15 points apiece while
Taylor White had 12 rebounds.
Pitt-Johnstown dropped to 1-1 on the season.
Virginia Union now comes home to Barco-Stevens Hall to face West Virginia State University in the home opener at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, in Richmond, Va.
