Ashle Freeman scored 14 points and moved into second-place among the all-time leading scorers in VUU women's basketball history, but Fayetteville State University defeated the Lady Panthers 70-46 on Saturday, January 10, in Fayetteville, N.C.
Freeman moved past
Barvenia Wooten-Cherry on the all-time leading scoring list with a breakaway lay-up early in the first half of the game. Â She now has 1,547 career points, compared to Wooten-Cherry's 1,534 points. Â
Freeman needs 17 more points to tie former Lady Panther Marquietta Randolph as VUU's all-time leading scorer.
VUU's
Lady Walker also scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the game, giving Walker her fifth double-double of the season.
The loss dropped VUU to 4-9 overall and 0-4 in CIAA play. Â Fayetteville State is now 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the CIAA.
Virginia Union now travels to Raleigh, N.C., to face Saint Augustine's University at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, January 12.
