Renesha Chiles lined a two-strike, two-out single in the seventh inning and drove in
Shakia Mackey to give VUU a 4-3 win over Elizabeth City State University in the opening game, then Chiles and Mackey homered to give VUU a 12-3 win in the night-cap on Saturday, April 5, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.
The sweep came on Senior Day for the Lady Panthers, where VUU saluted seniors Chiles, Mackey,
Shireese Borden,
Kierris Doyle, Shamanda Fambro, Chan'Tey Mack and
Danielle McEachern.
The game was also part of the First Annual Athletic Jamboree, which included a fund-raising brunch and the 2014 Spring Football Game.
VUU's
Quincy Lewis struck out seven in the first game while Borden also added a home run in the second game.
The wins raised VUU's record to 7-9 on the season and 6-5 in CIAA play.
It was also the fourth straight win for the Lady Panthers.
Virginia Union now travels to Murfreesboro, N.C., to face Chowan University in a double-header on Sunday, April 6.
