Virginia Union University's doubles team of Kiara Miller and Ellie Parsons came away with an 8-1 win, but Johnson C. Smith University defeated VUU 5-1 in women's tennis on the first day of the CIAA Spring Championships on Thursday, April 17, in Petersburg, Va.

VUU's Kiara Miller lost her singles match 6-2, 6-1 while teammate Christionne Taylor lost 6-0, 6-0.

Virginia Union's DeJamine Bryson lost her singles match 6-1, 6-1.

The loss eliminated VUU from the CIAA Women's Tennis Tournament and gave the Lady Panthers a final 2014 record of 5-12.
