Virginia Union University's Renesha Chiles homered to lead the Lady Panthers to a 10-2 win over Johnson C. Smith University on the first day of the CIAA Softball Tournament on Thursday, April 17, in Petersburg, Va.

Chiles' homer came in the second inning of VUU's second game of the day and gave her a total of three RBIs in the game.

VUU's Quincy Lewis scattered three hits and struck out six over five innings of work.

In the opening game, VUU's Kierris Doyle had two hits, including a triple, but Saint Augustine's University defeated the Lady Panthers 17-5.

The Lady Panthers are now 12-14.

The win kept VUU alive in the tournament, and the Lady Panthers will face Virginia State University at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 18, at the Petersburg Softball Complex in Petersburg, Va.
