Virginia Union University's Ashle Freeman scored 23 points to propel the Lady Panthers to a 66-56 win over Chowan University in the season finale for both teams on Saturday, February 22, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

The win moved VUU into a tie with Bowie State University for second place in the Northern Division of the CIAA.  Bowie State was awarded the second seed in the Nothern Division by virtue of a coin toss held after the game.  VUU will enter the 2014 CIAA Tournament as the third seed in the Northern Division and will play on Tuesday, February 25, against the sixth seed in the Southern Division in the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C.

Before the game, VUU saluted seniors Melyse Brown and Carla Cowherd, both of whom played their final game in Barco-Stevens Hall.

Brown added 14 points for the Lady Panthers while teammate Lady Walker led VUU on the boards with seven rebounds.

The win gave Virginia Union a final regular-season record of 9-15 overall and 6-10 in the CIAA.  Chowan dropped to 12-15 overall and 6-10 in the CIAA.
