Box Score Virginia Union University's Melyse Brown scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but Johnson C. Smith University defeated the Lady Panthers 64-56 on Monday, January 6, in Charlotte, N.C.

Brown was 6-of-12 from the field and 3-for-6 from beyond the three-point arc.

VUU's Ashle Freeman scored 11 points in the game and was the only other Lady Panther to reach double-figures.

Brown also registered a career-high seven steals in the game.

The loss dropped VUU to 3-8 overall and 0-3 in the CIAA.  Johnson C. Smith is now 8-4 overall and 3-0 in CIAA play.

Virginia Union now returns to Historic Barco-Stevens Hall to face Shaw University at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, in Richmond, Va.
