Box Score 2 Virginia Union University's
Renesha Chiles homered twice, but the Lady Panthers were defeated by Virginia State University 9-8 and 7-3 in a double-header at the VUU Softball Field on Tuesday, April 2, in Richmond, Va.
Both of Chiles' home runs came in the first game, where she drove in a total of four runs.
VUU trailed 9-5 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, but
Shireese Borden slugged a three-run home run with two out to pull the Lady Panthers to within 9-8. But the rally fell short when
Kristina Caldwell struck out to end the game.
In the second game, Borden had two hits, including a double while
Shakia Mackey and Sharmanda Fambro drove home a run apiece, but VSU defeated VUU 7-3.
The losses dropped VUU to 7-6 overall and in the CIAA. VSU is now 14-13 overall and 11-2 in the CIAA.
Virginia Union now travels to Takoma Park, Md., to face Washington Adventist University on Wednesday, April 3.
